Advice for Contact Lens Wearers
We would like to update you with the latest advice on contact lens wear and Convid-19 infection. Contact lenses have not been found to increase or decrease the risk of Convid-19 infection*.
However, as a contact lens wearer, you may be touching your eyes or face more frequently, therefore BCAL and ABDO have strongly advised opticians to encourage patients to be more vigilant with contact lens care and their hand hygiene.
Remember to follow the tips below:
Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly for 20 seconds, with soap and warm water, then dry with a paper towel.
Use fresh contact lens solutions.
Wipe and air dry your contact lens case every day.
Replace your contact lens case every month.
Do not swim or shower with contact lenses.
Do not splash water on to your contact lenses.
If your eyes feel uncomfortable or your vision doesn’t seem right, cease contact lens wear immediately and call your opticians.
If you have a runny nose or cough, use a tissue to shield yourself, then throw the tissue in the bin.
Do not forget to wash your hands frequently.
Call us if you need any help.
However, if you feel you cannot avoid touching your eyes or face constantly, you may want to reduce or suspend your contact lens wear for a period. If you would like a backup pair of glasses for this purpose, please visit the store or speak to a member of our staff. Should you wish to purchase a backup or an additional pair of glasses, we are offering you a 25% discount on your spectacle frames.
